  • Virtual: Virtual Characterisation Day – Big Science
    All day
    21-11-03

From the event website: FORCE Technology invites to Virtual Characterisation Day – Big Science on 3 November, 2021.

Save the date in the calendar right now!

On 3 November we have brought together a field of experts that will introduce advanced surface and materials characterisation techniques, with special focus on latest developments within Big Science, unravelling the new opportunities for applied industrial research in product design and development, quality assurance and quality control.

The full program will be available on 20 October, 2021, and we are offering the unique opportunity to have your samples investigated by our experts who will present you the results in real time during the breakout room sessions.

    Organized by FORCE Technology.

  • Virtual: 31st edition of LNLS Annual Users’ Meeting (RAU) 2021
    All day
    21-11-08-21-11-11

From the event website: The online meeting aims to gather around 500 researchers who use LNLS scientific instrumentation to perform cutting edge experiments in areas such as Materials Science, Health and Pharmacology, Environmental Science Energy, Biotechnology, X-ray Imaging, Oil and Gas, Chemistry, and others. The event will promote the exchange of experiences between users and debates on future facilities, which shall be in operation in the coming years.

RAU is an important forum for discussion, evaluation, and presentation of proposals for the improvement of the research projects to be performed at the new Brazilian synchrotron light source, Sirius – one of the most advanced synchrotron machines in the world. With the commissioning of Sirius, which has its first beamlines in final phase of assembling, the participation of the scientific community becomes essential to describe their needs and expectations for the new source. The RAU meeting is the ideal place to foster this debate.

  • Workshop: 2nd Northern Lights on Food Masterclass 2021
    All day
    21-11-15-21-11-19

From the event website: Structural properties of food are multi-dimensional and we therefore need to understand their structure at various length and time scales. They control storage qualities, uptake and nutritional value as well as texture and perception. Key challenges for food scientist and product developers in academia and food industry concerns the whole production, from raw material quality, starting with seed quality and plant breeding, to food processing and the final product. The quality of the product is also determined by packaging and how the food interacts with packaging during storage and consumer handling.

Techniques available at Large-Scale Research Infrastructure MAX IV Laboratory and the European Spallation Source, ESS, include spectroscopic, imaging and scattering techniques based on either X-rays or neutrons. These techniques allow us to obtain detailed compositional maps of food materials and obtain structural information ranging from the atomic, nano- to the micrometer scale not only of the final products, but also during processing and when the food product is digested.

    21-11-25
Confederation of Danish Industry, H. C. Andersens Boulevard 18, DK-1787 Copenhagen V, Denmark

Scientific data is a real driver of innovation and product development. The aim of this LINX workshop is to provide an overall “food-for-thought” within a variety of fields in the materials arena. It is spelled out in the following topics:

    • How data from a variety of measurement techniques can feed into product development
    • Exemplification by recent studies from universities and facilities
    • Discussion and “Q&A” with researchers on the big, great question: “What is possible?”
