From the event website: Next week we will have the honour of hosting an exceptional SCIENTÌFika session, in collaboration with ESS, the 2009 Nobel Prize in Chemistry, Professor Ada Yonath (born Lifshitz) who will be presenting her pioneering work on the structure of the ribosome. You are very welcome to join the meeting to hear her inspiring experience and have the chance to engage in a vivid discussion about her work, to get her opinion on possible future steps in her field of science and reflect how can synchrotron and neutron facilities support that.
Speaker: Prof Ada Yonath, Nobel Prize in Chemistry in 2009
Host: Dr Christine Darve, engineering scientist at European Spallation Source (ESS)
Synchrotron radiation and Cryo EM illuminated the basic life process: the translation of the genetic code. In a still unclear mechanism, the viruses, which lack such systems, take over their hosts machinery for replicating themselves.
